We’ve told you many times about the unusual Panic Playdate mobile retro console with a black-and-white screen, built-in games and a “wind-up handle,” so you’re already familiar with the product. It turned out that quite a number of mobile gaming fans knew about this novelty, who literally took the entire first batch of Playdate “off the shelves” in less than 20 minutes.

Pre-orders for the model began on July 29, with gamers managing to place 20,000 online orders in less than 20 minutes. The company initially warned that they would be able to collect just that many consoles by the end of 2021, so for those who didn’t make it, the system gave notice of delivery no earlier than 2022.

The developers didn’t expect such activity, so the online ordering page went offline several times. But more unlucky for all gamers outside the U.S., as the plugin international orders and delivery “fell” even more often, which prevented the residents of other countries have time to place their order for the first batch of consoles.

Recall that the Panic Playdate console is made in a compact package with dimensions of 76×74×9 mm and a 2.7-inch monochrome screen with a resolution of 400×240 pixels. The D-Pad, the A + B buttons, the Sleep + Menu, the accelerometer and the proverbial knob are responsible for the gameplay controls. The ARM Cortex M7 processor with a working frequency of 180 MHz, 16 MB RAM and 4 GB of internal storage are used as the hardware base. The console is equipped with 802.11 bgn (2.4 GHz) Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, as well as a built-in microphone, speaker, and headphone jack. Its battery life is 14 days in standby mode and 8 hours in active gaming mode.
